A GOOD PRONUNCIATION OF ENGLISH
A GOOD PRONUNCIATION OF ENGLISH
One of the most significant things in learning English as a second language is pronunciation. Without a good acquisition of English pronunciation, one cannot make a lot of progress in his/her developmental path. Lacking a good pronunciation will negatively influence his/her listening and speaking skill directly and his/her reading and writing indirectly. Nevertheless, what do we mean by a good pronunciation of English?
To begin with, a good English pronunciation means good intonation. Intonation creates the music of a language. For instance, one needs to be aware of the difference among his/her intonation in pronunciation. Let me take an example.
Kate, do you like ‘coffee’? (High voice at the end)
I don’t like ‘coffee’. (Low voice at the end)
Realize this; we need to pay much attention when pronouncing them in two different ways. A great number of learners do not notice intonation differences; thus, they cannot move far and their English acquisition is not parallel with their spent time.
Another aspect of English pronunciation is consonants and vowels. This seems to cause so many difficulties for learners. For example, the “D” sound in ‘this’ or ‘mother’ is really challenging to so many learners. It is so tough that a large number of learners end up pronouncing it /d/ or /z/.
There are still other problems relating to and not less important; wish to see again next topic and I will talk more deeply.
Finally, you are lucky and enjoyable to study with Jesuits. They are educated by an academic training scheme. Therefore, seize your chance and enjoy English with them and start with English pronunciation firstly.
Tata for now and see you next topic.
